Azazel’s Role In The Apocalypse Azazel is an Israeli word that means scapegoat, meaning innocent people punished for sins that they did not commit. One of the Bibles, Leviticus contains the word, which means a goat isolated for religious reasons in deserted areas. During the months of September or October every year, Azazel gets a goat passed over mountain precipices. The word can also mean “rough and rocky cliffs”.
The bible depicts Azazel as one person who was formerly an angel and wedded married women after which he fell to the earth. They were experts in constructing weapons and makeup. The activities of the fallen angels corrupted people. Since Azazel was responsible for such confusion, God punishes him by flinging him across deserts, where he would hide in the dark. God has announced through the Bible that punishments to Azazel for his sins would be on judgment day. Apocalypse means prophesy from the Bible. It reveals to a believer, some future events predicted by God to happen. It is a Greek word, specifically describing the world’s ultimate obliteration and promises that virtuous people will not die. Believers expect such annihilation to happen during world wars or other catastrophes. Abraham and the books of Enoch and Levictus have forecast apocalypses.
Abraham represented Azazel as carcass-eating birds or snake that enticed Eve, that tried to contaminate Abraham’s offerings to God. Abraham mentions that Azazel must survive hardships in the world and hell. Levictus describes about the fact that Azazel received a live goat. This goat carried people’s sins while God receives a second goat during atonement day. Enoch has the following descriptions about Azazel. He wanted to choose his wife from already-married women, who were beautiful. Due to temptation, these women got pregnant and created giants. For this act of tempting women, angel Azazel with his followers inhabited earth from heaven. Therefore, God punished Azazel to live in hell in darkness.
